Hi There!

We are having new carpet laid very soon and I wanted to arrange to have lighting installed every third or so stair to push light onto the stairs with a sensor at night if possible.

Anyone done this or can tell me anything about it? Is it very expensive?

The lights are cheap (about $20 - $30ish). The cost in the job is getting a power feed down the wall. In all likelihood you'll have to gib stop and then repaint the wall. Starts getting pricey fast at that point.

Friend of mine has lighting inside the banister shining down going up his stair case, works really well and is motion triggered too.

I'm not an electrican but I don't think that would meet code as it's fixed wiring. Maybe if it was 12V it would be OK though.
