Hello

My mother got new lawnmaster mower with Briggs & stratton engine just before xmas.
I have now tried to change the running in oil with new oil, but can't find the drain plug.
Looked in the manual and it show where the plug should be, but nothing. Only
a mark in the casting not drilled or tapped.

Back to the shop where it came from, Man said "they don't put the plug in anymore,
you have to turn the mower over and drain from the filler tube or use a pump to pull the oil out"

How silly is that.

Same with my masport. It is probably the same engine. I am not too bothered about turning it over.

Not uncommon for small engines like that. Sometimes the oil filler / dipstick tube comes out which makes it easier.

Thanks for that, i will try it. Didn't think of it.
The US website explains how to drain, take out plug

with some of those later ones and becoming more common you remove the filler plug and tip the mower over and drain the oil that way. Most likely be videos on youtube now since everything seems to get there these days. My Chinese copy is the same

That is pretty silly. But maybe they think they are more through away items these days. Or maybe they had problems with them leaking, and this removes that from the equation. Or maybe it is just a cost cutting exercise, as a few less parts.

I suspect it's because on most of the types of machinery these motors are put in, you would have to tip it upside down just to get to the drain plug anyway, so there may as well only be one hole. It costs more to put it in, and it's not really saving you any time or effort to drain.

It's not like a vehicle where it's completely impractical to turn it over, and you can get to the drain plug with it up the right way.
