ne wbuild house and it will be prewired for an alarm. ( i am an industrial sparky but hate house bashing).
i want a good solution for acces control using a remote preferably. so one remote will control the garage door, unlock the front door and set/unset the alarm.
at the moment i really like the GOJI door lock but have no idea of its ability to integrate to an alarm system..

any suggestions for a a system that will allow me to open the front door without keys? (either a fob or pin or mobile bluetooth proximity etc...
any ideas welcome.

As been an industrial sparky myself looking for some kind or solution without going way over the top....

There are some options for standard alarm unit, The Arrowhead alarm products seem to have a lot of add ons for their basic units, you can get RF modules and output cards, I reasonabily sure you can set an unlock from the RF module to drive an output to unlock the door.

I recently put a 2G dialer on my AAP elite series alarm, it sends a text message or SMS when it is triggered, you can make the 2G dialer send out custom emails depending on who disarms or if there is a fault like mains failure or low voltage on the battery, but i've still to figure out how to get this working.

Have a look into the DSC line of products, they have programmable contact closures for garage doors and electronic door strikes as well as a great touchscreen for the home, also with IP based systems for the tech savvy.  Easily integrated and very upgrade-able.

I'd be a bit wary of tying them altogether - in fact I don't like remotes at all. This area was all built by the same company using the same suppliers for every house. :-\ Because of that (and houses getting closer together), we went through a spate of our garage door being opened and closed by someone else's remote, until we eventually found a dip switch code that nobody else nearby was using (so far!).

Not too hard, the outputs from the alarm can be programed to pulse with an arm or disarm signal, or you could program the output card to pulse a particular output when the 2nd or 3rd RF remote button is pushed, using this output you could drive the garage door open or closed.

The problem might be when you want to open / close the garage door without changing the alarm, although there's usually a separate internal wall button to do that. (The real pain is trying to open, or more so close, the electric garage door when there's a power cut!)

Our remotes have four buttons - one for the garage door, one or two for the alarm (which I never use, I perfer the proper keypad) and the last one or two not used.

I would think you would want to set the system to give you convenience to open doors but not compromise the alarm if you lose that remote. You don't want someone turning the alarm off for you.

Time to find a new industry!

Just the same as your car alarm, it will arm and disarm with the press of a button, and lock/unlock the doors, you loose the remote for your car and the alarm is compromised.

That's how it's meant to work, but as I discovered when returning to my car one day, it doesn't always work.

My car had a problem with the small electric motor that powered the passenger-side door lock, and although the door was making the normal "click" noise when using either the remote or the driver's-side central locking, it was not actually locking! (The alarm and imobiliser parts were still working though.) It wouldn't even lock by using the manual button inside the door and would only lock by using the key in the passenger door. Replacing the motor of course fixed it, but these days I always manually check the doors every time I leave the car.

Locks only keep honest people out, it only takes a few seconds to brute force a lock on a car, a bit more than that to kick a house door in, and only a second to throw a nearby rock thru a house or car window.

Alarms are a scare factor, when they go off the thief either makes a run for it or grabs the nearest valuable item and runs.

But all this is way off topic, it was about automating the house alarm to lock/unlock doors, open/close garage door etc, of which most house alarms can do with the right set of additional add on and a bit of knowledge on how it all works.

Or wears earmuffs to rob the car / house blind while everyone else around simply ignores the blaring alarm going off. ;-)

Our garage door has a code hopping remote so no dip switches and no one else's remote will work on it. Same for the electric gate I've bought from another company.

For automation if you are willing to pay the price, I'd be keen on Samsung. Lots of their stuff on eBay (from reputable suppliers) and for me looks really smart/modern. It was just a bit too expensive for our budget, but maybe next time.

The answer is to make it undesrible for a thief to break in, obvious external siren, sturdy door, security cameras.....theif just moves on to easier pickings

I quite like my Paradox system. All doors use industry standard Lockwood electric mortise locks or V-Blots. Disarming/unlocking is by key fob/pin. It is possible to use remote to do the same but since my car has a garage door opener built in I prefer to drive into the garage and then enter a code or present my tag as I get out of the car.

One other benefit is that the whole system can be controlled by iPhone, great when tradesmen arrive and you want to let them in remotely.
