What is the best product for waterproofing a canvas tent?

We put the tent up last night and is survived the rain however I would still like the increase it's longevity.

Whale fat could work well but may be frowned upon, expensive, and smelly. I have a spray for my oilskin jacket, you can probably get products made to waterproof tents from outdoor stores.
