Any good ones that people have used? I guess what I'm after is someone who will do a proper job and not have to call them every week because it wasn't done properly or were given poor advice.

PS also trying DIY in the mean time. caustic soda, but thing is, it won't drain so i can't get the caustic soda to the site of blockage.

For a quick fix you could also get some drain unblocking 'stuff' (nice technical term there!) from a hardware store.

I had a drain under a downpipe that had become blocked and caustic didn't work, but the stuff I got from Mitre 10 worked a treat. I used it a couple of times and then never had an issue with the drain again. Not sure what it was called, but it was in a bright orange plastic pottle.

The plumber cleared the roots out of out drains at my place with a jet hose while using the camera, and found the a sewer join had dropped which caused blocking also.

That ay, you know the whole pipe is clear and can use the root control stuff to make sure the problem doesn't come back.

If you get a plumber in, don't get Vic Nicholson, we had a problem with our drain underground, I ended up taking the day off work to dig the hole which ended up being massive, as you cant get a digger into the section. They came along, put a new short piece of pipe in and charged $1600

The pot I used from Bunnings is I think blue with a red lid, but my memory is not that great. It should not be used on metal pipes though. It is a powder with metal bits in it, pour down as much hot water as you can and then chuck some of this stuff in. It is heavy and drops to the bottom, where it is needed. Make it extra strong and leave it for some time.

If the blockage is not too far away from the opening, use a water blaster (but not until caustic stuff have neutralized). Works every time on our gully trap when the misses had put too much down the waste disposal. I don;t buy chemicals for the job any more (but have new pipes now and no tree roots).

You can never have enough Volvos!
