Has anybody got a Advance Meter from Genesis Energy in Lower Hutt?

I was expecting my meter to be upgraded in December 2014. Phoned them up and there was not a lot the CSR agent could tell me apart from "It takes along time to upgrade all our customers meters, please be patient".

According the Genesis the Advance Meter have now been installed in Lower Hutt.

There is no urgency needed for wanting a Advance Meter it's just that I'm curious to know my day-to-day usage.

We've got one in Petone. We bought the house 3 years ago and it already had one installed back then.

Had one for a number or years in my Naenae Road property.

And I believe my new house in central hutt already has one.

I'm in palmy and it took about two years to get ours installed

I got the letter saying advising that I'm getting one, saw the electricians in our driveway one day then nothing. Months later I rang to check what the hold up was and was told they can't install it as there wasn't enough space in the meter box. My meter box is outside and split from the internal fuse board with plenty of space - go figure. Even multiple calls later I got nowhere despite me saying look if they need to do more work to make space then just bill me for it.

Then a few months back I noticed I had hourly data on my genesis bill and sure enough discovered they'd put the smart meter in already.

I called Genesis Energy some time last week asking why my meter has not been updated. They said they are not sure why the installers have missed out my street but they will be doing it sometime in the next 12 to 24 months. Or I can pay to be bumped up the list but with no set date.

Two things that has annoyed me:

  1. The Genesis Energy sales agent who came to my house told me it would take about two weeks for the advance meter to be installed. Once the transfer was complete. I repeated this given information back to genesis and they tolled me basically that was rubbish.
  2. Genesis Energy has published that my area has been completed for advance meter installs.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The data isn't real time making it next to useless. It may be useful for those with power usage discrepancies but otherwise, graph spikes when you get out of bed and again when you get home from work. When you go on holiday you see spikes for your hot water heating if on electric. End of.

They are useful to people with indoor meters, we were threatened with disconnection from Genesis because the reader couldnt get inside, I paid to have them come around $50 from memory, as our street wasnt getting them installed at that stage.
