Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum or not, but does anybody know where to buy new/used roadside cabinets like those used by Chorus or even smaller ones like the one below?

I know they have the small fiberglass ones listed on Rocpac (where chorus contractors buy stock from) but that is not a retail site.
You would need to find a company who has an account with them. Generally anyone who does Chorus contracting will have a Rocpac account.

We're investigating the possibility of having a remote site for broadcast and monitoring equipment and need something weatherproof and secure to house the equipment in.

You could always try JDI or Broadtech to see if they have a decomissioned one that is suitable.

for a new one, there is a place in landsford crescent, Avondale that makes them, sorry i dont know their name, they also made TV mounts and a few other things, Google may help.

Macarthur engineering in Te Rapa in Hamilton make/made the aluminium boxes. Dont know if they still do though as it 7 or 8 years since i last was on their site. They came with differing width options and with/without a window/formica panels.

Occasionally a few pop up on trademe.

Eaton in christchurch made all the chorus cabinetisation project ones

However if you go to ideal electrical, they have a range of electrical cabinets you can buy or order, and you can get a pedestal to match for them too so they can sit on a concrete base.

There are stacks of global companies that make IP rated metal enclosures, and they'll probably be cheaper than having one made.

Rittal is one of the biggest, but any electrical wholesaler, or even RS online, will have access to a large range.

They are now part of PFS Engineering and mostly do Stainless steel enclosures

"How do you plan to make the box secure to prevent theft by people lifting it away or using a hiab/palfinger etc
All it would take is for a couple guys wearing hi vis vests, a truck with hiab and some road cones and nobody would be none the wiser.

edit: theres also things called angle grinders/cutters, hacksaws and drills.

I guess that's the risk we'll have to take.

There's plenty of other boxes that are out there that don't go missing and it's not as though ours will advertising what they are. Average Joe would assume they are Chorus or the like.

Gotta have some faith in humanity sometimes.

EDIT: Plus it will be on private land away from public roads.
