Does anyone know where to get 1 metre of 10mm x 25mm galvanised steel? I need to extend the staircase handrail, and none of the major retailers sell galvanised steel by the metre.

I have only ever bought from steel and tube in the past. and they sell long pieces but will hand you a hacksaw to make it shorter to fit your trailer.

Auckland North Shore. By major retailers I meant the usual suspects - Mitre10, Bunnings, Placemakers.
Which steel suppliers should I try?

Thanks, I'll try them. I don't actually need work done though, just a piece of flat steel. :)

Yeah, they might be a bit big for what I need. A single one metre piece is all I'm after.

Want cheap.. both in price & quality? Pop in to Magellan steel imports, Lansford Cresc, Avondale. Imported Chinese steel.. but how wrong can you go with straight galv bar..

Steel Cuts, Hill St, Onehunga has good NZ steel. Just had a load sent to me, was cheaper than buying it locally in spite of shipping. Very helpful guys, I'm sure they'd carve you off 1m.

How are you planning to attach it? If you're going to weld/drill/grind it you might be better buying un-galved, making it up, then popping into your local hot dipping place.

Or there is always a few guys on trademe with steel for sale.

Otherwise have purchased stuff from scrap metal dealers before and from engineering places out of their scrap bins.

Well, Bunnings do stock it but in 4 meter lengths only which is way too much for what I need (and priced accordingly too).

richms: http://www.steelcuts.co.nz/index.php?route=product/category&path=57 ???

Thanks, I've flicked them an email. Interestingly they don't have this size on their website - only 30 or 20 wide, not 25.
