There is a small soft rubber cap/bung/plug on our hot water cylinder that is very slowly leaking water.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

I can't get a decent photo of it sorry, due to it's location.

It's made from soft black rubber and is about 1 inch in diameter. There is a very slow leak from it. If I press it a few drops dribble out.

Hot water cylinder seems to be working fine.  The surface isn't hot to the the touch.

The label says it's a 2009 Peter Cooks non-ventilated cylinder with an operating pressure of 500kPA.

I'll get a plumber out tomorrow, but should I shut off water to the cylinder in the mean time?

Even a photo of the cylinder and pointing out the general location would help.

This is the best I could do, apologies for the poor quality image.

The cap can be seen (sort of) just below the right hand end of the label that is partly obscured by the steel strap.

There is a white streak below the cap which suggests it has been leaking for quite some time, although we only noticed yesterday.

As you say, it looks like it's been leaking a while, so I don't think one more day is going to make things any worse.

I suspect it's covering a bung for something to do with the solar option.

OK thanks.  Hopefully something simple.

And the cylinder is kaput.  Leaking from the stainless inner cylinder seam.

The black plug is covering an injection point where foam is pumped between the inner stainless cylinder, and the outer galv steel sheathing.

Apparently some of the earlier stainless cylinders let go at the seam.
