I know the relative merits of the Shower Dome have been discussed before, but I have a couple of questions -

1: being a sealed unit on top of the shower cabinet/stall, does this create a lack of oxygen/air and make the shower stuffy or airless?

2: my shower cabinet has a small (8cm) gap along the top edges (door and two side panels) ... would that gap negate the operation of the Shower Dome?

Re Showerdome mine does not feel airless at all. The idea is to keep the steam in until it condenses on the panels as opposed to steaming up your bathroom.
You say you have a small 8cm gap. Are you sure you mean 8cm That is about 3 inches in real measurements which is quite a big gap.
Whether the steam will rise and go out that I am not sure you could check with your installer to see what thy thing

If it is 8mm I dont think the gap will worry it. The steam rises and hits the roof of dome and then it condenses and runs down and back into the shower. If worried talk top installer or Showerdome themselves. They have a website

Just another data point...

I also have a Shower Dome, and agree with Ron... 8mm gap isn't important, and it doesn't feel airless.

Incidentally, it isn't "sealed"... our dome just sits on top of the walls and some wall mouldings.

Shower domes are amazing. We had one in our flat we rented for 6 years, our bathroom always was the driest room in the house, and it was a damp house. Was amazing with good hot water pressure as it turned almost into a stand up sauna. Never was stuffy, was really great after a long day especially in winter to stand in there with it all steamy and hot.

We had a gap too, about 8mm as well, never caused a problem.

The landlord installed it, a year later they had one of those "home energy consultants" through who thought it was a bad idea as it "trapped moisture" in the bathroom. The guy was a bit clueless, as you want the moisture contained within the shower, rather than on the walls of the bathroom etc causing damage. Moisture is in the toilet bowl as well! :sigh: Landlord ignore them, he was a plummer as well and installed them for customers.

Shower boxes should come with them as standard IMHO.

I thought the same, so a piece of corrugated plastic card, some 90 degree brackets, and ended up with a solution that's 90% as good for <$50.

Pretty ugly though. Many people aer now moving to larger tiled showers, so these domes have become less relevant for many, although they may make them for those too. I guess the benefit of the dome, is that it prevent the plastic sagging, as a dome is structurally self supporting and strong..

It's also transparent... no need for a light in the shower, if your showerbox has glass walls.
