Im in the process of replacing a far flung phone jack with a network cable.  To reuse the hole I cut the phone wire heading to the room to run the cat6 cable.

Obviously the phone cable was connect back into the house somewhere (would be part of a split upon split upon split type config, no distribution panel here).

What should I do with that cable to terminate in properly....as annedotally I notice my internet speed is down by 1mbps today.  I'm not sure if I can trace it back to it's split, so may have to just be able to end it nicely and leave it under the house.  I only really need a short term solutio as I should be hooked to fibre this week.

But I am intending to connect my pap2t to the phone wiring so that I can just plug in regular phones to the multitude of jacks I have in this house.

Quick answer put the same socket on it and restore the same electrical scenario whatever that may be.

Long answer depends on what that scenario is I'm guessing three wire but reusing the socket is easy solution here.

Hmm yeah good idea.  Will pull the old one off the wall and try and connect it under the house where the cable leaves the house heading to the garage.
