We have two 4 burner BBQ's with side burner. One from Bunnings and the other from The Warehouse. Both priced at $299:

Jumbuck VS Necessities

In your opinion, what is the better contender?

From a purely aesthetic point of view I think the Jumbuck looks better.

Go check them out in person IMO, you'll get a feel for which is better made

yep check it out.

Last time I looked (about 3 years ago) they both were pretty poor qual, but the Jumbuck was slightly better made.
I ended up getting the Jumbuck.
The burner was stainless but the deflectors and bracketing were thin steel and rusted through after a couple years.

Get a proper fitting cover when you get it. The one I had tended to blow off in a storm accelerating the corrosion.

After having had a couple of these big sized bbq's i moved to a weber Q (gas) bbq a couple of years ago. Although smaller than those you are looking at (Weber Q's come in 3 sizes) it is hands down the best BBQ i have used. Also it is portable so often take it away with us. also a good dealer network and lots of matching accessories, rotissere, flat plates, fish racks etc available

Yep, this quality/quantity discussion came up in another recent BBQ thread (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=141&topicid=181177) - that thread was enough to convince me to move away from one of the big beasts, so we'll be purchasing one of the mid-sized Weber Qs for an Xmas present for ourselves (Q2200 or Q2000).

That said, they are more expensive - the OP is discussing BBQs for $300, whereas even the mid-sized Webers are around twice that (and that's before allowing for a stand!). Personally, I've been swayed by the argument to pay more upfront for the quality and to get a product that works better and lasts longer (this doesn't always hold true with all products!); I'm not comfortable with a culture that sees things as substantial as bbqs as disposable items that only need to last a season or two before being replaced. But often a budget is not that elastic to find twice as much money up-front...
