Hi All,

Looking at picking up a new wooden outdoor dining table and chairs - hopefully in an end of summer (maybe I'm too early and need to wait a few weeks) deal.

Anyone know the best places to look? Any bulk importers or wholesalers that offer deals? Or maybe big box stores that are best?

Not looking for anything too flash. Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

Mitre 10 Mega have started selling off their outdoor furniture range already. Didn't look closely, but saw signs up a few days ago at the local store.

We got a good deal from Harvey Norman. Seeing as it's getting near the end of season you may do quite well if your up for some negotiating. It's got to be reasonable quality if you want it to last outside.

Re Mitre 10 - Yeh they've got 30% off but their stuff is already pretty pricey. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm hoping there's maybe some smaller importers around that have some stock they need to unload. Or any indication of sales from the bigger guys.

Many thanks

We have a large set of wooden furniture made by Devon.

Excellent quality and spares backup. We had our umbrella go over in a gale force gust that appeared out of nowhere. Bust a couple of the hardwood spars and things. No problem to order the replacements and 30 minutes of fitting time later we were back to new. The seat covers all look like new after 8 years in the Wairarapa sun too.

You definitely get what you pay for with outdoor furniture.

Early Settler had a flyer out a couple of days ago, I am pretty sure it included timber furniture, perhaps worth a look?  I have not idea what the quality is like on their stuff.

Yep, just came to post that today's Dom Post had an Early Settler flyer included within it - this has a few pages of outdoor furniture, some at fairly good prices. It also includes a general statement around an outdoor furniture clearance (though not all the prices would suggest this!).

Briscoes had a 1/2 price sale (Shock!) on wooden outdoor furniture at the weekend.

If it's not still on, wait a week for the next sale...

This one looks good. Anyone dealt with iFurniture before? Any issues?

Interesting concept for outdoor furniture, being Teak, and if you choose to weather it i would doubt the inner extension would line up much after a year.

Even oiling it would still warp some.  Oiling will also cause it to leach on hot days if you get a small shower or water from somewhere else on it.  That will not come out of your clothes in a wash

Keep an eye out at Briscoes. We got a set the other week that was on clearance. It was the display model and was missing some bolts so we managed to get it even cheaper. I think it was $250 or so.

And just for the nay-sayers we still have our wooden bench and table set from Briscoes that we bought about 10 years ago. I just give it a light sand and restain every summer.

They had 30% off outdoor furniture in Palmers garden centre today. Didn't take a close look, so can't comment on quality, but may be worth a try. I wouldn't have thought of looking there normally for furniture

Ended up picking up a good deal on end of line outdoor furniture at Bunnings.... $599 for a 2m x 1m table plus two bench seats. Made of Karri gum. Not sure what the quality will be like but will see how it goes. Happy with the price though.

About three weeks back some @rse stole our outdoor table and four chairs from our deck at the very back of the section, so I've been looking for what's available - clearly a bad time, given the season, so we'll wait until Spring before buying. Not that we'll get much from insurance, once the excess is taken into account!

I've found that many tables are poorly constructed, particularly the joining of the legs to the table with a single bolt per leg.

I've  also found there's a huge amount of teak furniture available from stores primarily in Akld, and at reasonable prices. But, going by an earlier post, should I expect teak furniture to not wear particularly well? I was particularly interested in an extension table, so noted the comment re fit of this over time. Two of the chairs we had stolen were teak, and TBH they'd weathered fine and were well over 10 years old.

If teak's not a great material, what's the recommendation for good quality but affordable wood? All furniture will be left outside but under a veranda/

@mattyb do you have a link to the Bunnings table you purchased?

Cheers and thanks.
