I bought one of these, but it's shipped as a China only version and it won't connect because once it gets the QR Code, it basically rejects it as invalid.

One of my staff has a Chinese version of the app, and he can connect to the camera (Without a security code or ANYTHING!!!!) via Wifi, but I can't find his version of the APP (Which is in Mandarin writing anyway).

Anyone got one of these who can help me get it working?

For Android.

At least for the mi smart sockets, I had to choose china for the server when I made the account in the mi home app.

Then it would find and interact with the things ok. I initially chose singapore and it would configure the wifi and then not find the wifi switch when scanning.

Perhaps try making the account and choosing china server and see if its any different?

Ah right, yeah that sounds like what I did. Can you remind me where I configure which server I am using.

in a section called personal, and then settings, had to be on mainland china for any of the mi automation gear to even get detected at all and that made some screens come up in chinese.

Yeah I recall that, but I can't seem to find that in the app any more. Could I trouble you for a screenshot or something to send me in the right direction?

 NM Found it. Wrong app!

I managed to get mine working after quite a bit of mucking around. I know I put the previous firmware version on it (from here) ton enable it to work outside China, and had to install the Xiomi store to get the app. Subsequently uninstalled the store though, so not sure what it was called. Will try and export the apk.

[Edit] - found it: if just using the camera, the "Yi Home" app worked, rather than needing the Mi Home one. I've pm-ed you a link to the apk if it's of use.

Hi.

I got it working finally. I used the Home app and as per @richms suggestion changed the server to mainland china.

I am feeling concerned that I heard it clicking with an orange light flashing every few hours, so I hope someone in China isn't "watching" me :)

Picture is pretty good for $30 camera.

The click will be the IR filter moving. Change in light or it rebooting will cause that.

I don't really trust any of the cloud stuff to give any IP camera inside internet access.
