I currently have a smart vent Sv04 ventilation system keeping the house nice and Dry.

I have a new Gas fire being installed in a couple of weeks into the existing chimney. The fire is a Thermoflow 700 LPG fireplace. I am having it with the electronics and digital remote ( the remote is also the Thermostat).

I was thinking of upgrading the ventilation system to include heat transfer, so as to take the warm air in the lounge and pump it to the bedrooms just before we head off to bed etc.

A guy from Smart Energy Solutions came round and said that would not be the best approach, owing to the thermostat from the fire not generating enough "excess" heat to be moved.

Does this sound right, still better off with a heater in each room ?

Yes the guy is correct. Heat transfer systems are designed to be used with wood burning fireplaces due to there high heat output and lack of control over that heat.
Considering the cost of LPG and heat loss through the duct I would almost bet on it costing more to run than heaters in bedrooms.

You cannot install a Heat Transfer System (Fan), as the HTS fan lowers the room pressure thus sucking the flame out into the room

If you ask the plumber who is putting your fire in, he will tell you this

Had a HTS with a wood fire, no problem, worked really well, from living room to 3 bedrooms

Assuming that is a living flame fire (I googled thermoflow 700) It will be expensive to run as a heating system. As LPG is expensive enough as it is. Then to use it in an inefficient gas fire. You will probably find that plug in electric heaters will be cheaper to run. Open fronted gas fires are only good if you only want the ambiance of a fire. They are not designed to be an efficient heater. If you want an efficient gas fire, you need to get something like a Rinnai Arriva. Or if you don't care about the ambiance, get a heatpump. Now if you had Natural gas, Then the right gas fire would be a good option.

Im a Plumber / Gasfitter myself. And I hate those open fronted gas fires. As they have given gas heating a bad name in NZ.

Ambiance was a big part of what we were going for. Needed to replace the existing wood burner, so we had a space for a fire.
