Hey all,

I am about to move house and into a rental with no alarm, and I want to put in a wireless unit (so it can be removed when needed). Requirements are:

* Control panel with keypad (ideally with fobs or RFID tags)
* Minimum of 2 PIR
* Minimum of 2 door sensors
* Internal siren
* Ideally an external siren
* Ideally mobile notification over 3G
* Ideally locally available as I don't want to wait for international shipping

I don't need security camera integration, however if there is a solution that can eventually offer this I could look at it.

Ideally I don't want a DIY solution, but if there is a Pi based solution that is simply I have a spare unit for this.

So, what do people recommend?

I went with a paradox system. Wireless sensors & smoke alarm. I have a wired keypad on the box, but we always use remotes. I know you can get wireless reed switches etc. I monitor through ip, but cellular options available. I receive notification via email & can arm/disarm using the paradox app.

Every bit of your requirement screams Chuango G5 system. You can also buy it off Ali Express and few other Australian retailer. I will buying the same for my new house build. Reviews onsite and on youtube are good.

I have seen those on Trademe, from basic kits to complete sets. Thanks for the review link, and good to know other people think they are OK. I will research more.

I got the hardware at cost as I worked for a security company at the time. Cost approx $800

I programmed it myself. The app cost $12 from memory. Total rip off as it isn't really that functional, but it's how I wanted it set up.

That Chuango system looks interesting. I'd be keen to sell what I have to change to that sort of setup. Much more user friendly installation & monitoring.

If you are looking for more review videos on Youtube then search for Miguard G5 instead of Chuago G5 because in Europe it is sold under a Miguard brand name.

Take a look at the dislikes and read the comment. The channel that recorded it is a competitor and they have been told in the comments section what is wrong with their process they tried to show people in the video. I saw the same video at first when I started investigating about the product.

I watching this a few times and read all the comments, this its a bit MEH. I see two situations for a potential burglar:

1. Professional. They would be able to get past some (most?) alarms and locks, and you are probably slowing them down rather than stopping them
2. Opportunist. They would first have to know the alarm, find the panel, work out what kind of defeat there is, etc. by which time the alarm will have sounded

However when used with security stays on windows, deadlocks, padlocks on garage doors, cameras, large dog, cattle prods, etc, it should provide a decent deterrent that also stops any opportunist.

My mum and brother both have the same brand alarm system (though a more basic model without the IP or smartphone app) and they're both really happy with theirs. They were installed by the same sparky though, so that may have something to do with it.

Given I also use the same sparky, I am also looking at this brand. I'd be interested in your views on how well the smartphone app works. I wasn't exactly filled with confidence looking at the android instructions (massively zoomed out png).

The smartphone app instructions also refer to some home automation features (garage doors, heaters, lighting). Do you know anything about these? I'm picking it's too much to hope that it uses an open/common standard like Zigbee or Z-wave?

Only had a quick play seems ok big step up from the dialers on the old panels.

Control is done via relay outputs
