Hey guys,

A mate of mine got a new house and found this.

Thought of maybe central vaccum but the opening is rather small

Any ideas?

Thanks

Looks like a gas connection. I have a few of these in my house. It's for connecting gas heaters.

I'm amazed if it was ever legal to have a gas outlet like that in such close proximity to an ignition source (power outlet).

It's an early prototype of this.

If that thing had been designed by Steve Jobs, it would have had rounded corners on the bezel.

If you are going to buy some gas heaters to use with those sockets. Check the gas type first. As both Natural gas and LPG use the same kind of outlet - Stupid.

Also be aware that un-flued gas heaters that use these plugs are terrible for condensation.  We have a couple of these in our house that we don't use and inquired about getting them removed.  $500 bucks including new compliance cert...they are staying where they are. Yes ours are near the power supply as well as the heaters they are designed for need both.
