We have aluminium windows and in some rooms they make a clicking sound every minute or so in the afternoon when the sun is on it.

I understand objects expand and contract, however, I haven't come across windows that make such a audible clicking noise.

Any ideas guys?

Is it a particular joint grating while expanding? Can you locate the source?

It is the same spot every day. I can push on the window but the clicking noise still happens.

I feel it is behind the gib?

Just wondering if there is a quick way to minimise this noise.

The noise sounds very much like tapping the window with a nail.

It could be a number of things I would think. How old are the windows? If old, how do the hinges look for the window (assuming it's an awning window)? A bit of grease couldn't go astray here.

It could be a flashing that's riveted to the frame which is moving at a different speed, or the mitered joints of the frame itself. However it'll be nigh on impossible to fix. I'd be preparing myself to get used to the sound and learn to tune it out. It won't be going away in a hurry I wouldn't think.

It's actually 8 years old, so not old at all.

I guess I just want to know if it is normal? Maybe I'm too sensitive to these things?

It's actually a window pane, with two windows on top of each other to one side.

It is the window pane side that makes the noise. It doesn't matter whether the windows are opened or closed.

My wife's parents have an aluminium frame house and when it gets hot it clicks and clack and snaps and makes all sorts of noises.

Then again as it cools down at night.

Pretty sure it's normal.

We have a timber home (Initial Home) and when it cools at night we get some good creaks and bangs, but a constant tapping like you describe would drive me mad.

But seriously, how are the rubber seals around the glass? Do you think the sound is from the glass or the frames?

Sounds like it is coming from behind the wall just by the frame. The rubber looks to be in good condition.
