I am wanting to replace one of two switches:

  • Single Switch - controlling one set of lights e.g. a bedroom
  • Single Switch - controlling one set of lights but 2 switches in the room e.g. 2 x switches in the kitchen
  • Double Switch - One controlling one set of lights and the other controlling another set of lights e.g. in this case one switch controls the kitchen lights and the other switch controls the Hall lights.

I do have 3 switches controlling one set of lights but Wemo doesn't support this.

Nearly all of our switches are standard NZ HPM.

HPM Single Light Switch

The picture shows a single switch but the face plate is horizontal (as opposed to the traditional NZ vertical alignment) which I accept is not ideal for me.

I have looked at Memo but need basic questions answering:

1) If the face plate has two switches in it, where do I get the face plate from? Overseas? I haven't found a web site in NZ selling these.

2) I think Memo can handle 2 switches in different locations controlling 1 set of lights. Is that correct?

3) The lounge has 3 switches controlling 3 sets of lights in the Lounge, all the 3 switches on the one face plate. I don't think Memo supports dimmable switches.

Cannot think of anything else at the moment.

It only supports 1 switch per lot of lights, forget multiway switching. You can use IFTTT to make one trigger when the other is turned on/off, but there is massive lag with that.

Needs an earth at the box so I cant even stick 1 at each end of a 2 way switching with each doing a seperate set of lights and just use one of the 3 core wires for in/out/neutral as there is no earth in the far box at all, and when I asked if I could just use a wire from the second 3 core for an earth was told no, because its not green/yellow and sleeving cables is a no go now.

You can get decora covers that will cover 2 wemo switches off amazon, I think I have seen some locally somewhere that sold plates for AV use, as they had speaker terminals on decora sized plates. 2 of them will fit in a standard 2 gang flushbox which is easily found even at miter10/bunnings type places. It's when you go to 3 gang that it gets harder.
