The handle to my reclining sofa broke today. It was bought from a discount store that used to run out of a big warehouse in Porirua, up behind Bunnings, but it's been gone for ages. I could probably find the receipt, but they may be out of business. I know it was made in China.

Any ideas if this is a standard part I can buy, or if there's someone who can fix it for me? I could kludge it with a pair of vice grips or something, but that'd be a bit ugly

Plenty of similar looking ones on aliexpress. Perhaps get it out and see that the back matches tho?

Yep you can buy them on alix / ebay / amazon. Just get the dimensions and have a look for "recliner handle"

There's usually just a recessed screw holding them in, if you have a close look you'll spot it.  Unscrew, and the way to change the cable over should be fairly obvious

SepticSceptic:

3D print it ?

No. Unless your 3D printer is industrial-grade (e.g. a sintering machine, although that's for metal) you're not going to get anything like the mechanical robustness you need, either from the raw materials or the way it's printed.

Yep, they are available as a spare part.

I just went around the local furniture stores and one had a supply of them in a drawer.

Cost me something like $30 IIRC

Ah that's interesting, thanks :) I'll move the sofas around so I have a working one, take the mechanism out, and either order online or try a local store.
