As a kid my mother used to dust and use a specific furniture polish which was a deep red colour in what I think was a cyclinderical container that was tapered at the top with a squirt thing at the top.

I found a similar thing called CO oil, but I don't recall it being called that.

Anyone recall the name of the polish?

Sorry - I never met your mother. I am sure she was lovely though. Mine used pledge mostly.

CO is a good product. We used it a lot until we changed our furniture.

I would have said CO as that's what I recall being used when I was a kid (as well as Pledge) and the only thing that I can think of that comes in that type of bottle

CO is what she would have used.

I remember mum using Pledge and CO. We use CO now.

I wouldn't use CO oil myself. It dries out too fast and does little for the condition of the wood and has that dreadful oil residue. And the dark red stuff stains everything a foul dark-red oak.

My take is that it was developed in your Grandma's time as a low-effort alternative to what your great-Grandmother used. Which was harder wax polishes which require ten times more effort.

If you can find it Woodoc furniture wax is a million times better alternative. Easy to use as CO oil, but lasts much longer, has nearly no residue and penetrates much better to stop the wood drying out. http://www.woodoc.com/en/products/woodoc-deep-penetrating-furniture-wax

If you need a wax I've had OK luck with Briwax, but it is easy to over-apply and end up with smudges. Great on unsealed mahogany table tops if done well.
