I'm trying to move my father's Radionics D9412 alarm control system off a landline (he's paying for fibre and a copper phone line). I was considering using a Cisco ATA. But when I discussed the compatability requirements with the monitoring firm, they were suggesting a Permaconn Transmitter with an associated rise in monitoring costs.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

I think that's the module we installed here. Works fine. If it is the one we have, it has remote set/unset from an app if you want it. Don't mind paying the higher monthly fee too much, as it means monitoring works even if power is down and/or the fibre is cut.

Sounds good, but I was hoping to not have any capital cost beyond the spare ATA :)

I found Monitoring Plus do a good job in explaining the downsides to using an ATA with a monitored alarm: https://www.monitoringplus.co.nz/alarmvoip.php but they actually support them!

The Permaconn is the proper way to do it and will being going over a cellular connection hence the increased monitoring cost.

I have had a handful of alarms working through an ATA but it's by no means the "approved" solution for a lot of places. You just need to set the DTMF to Inband as ContactID can't be translated in to RFC2833 signals. Would also G711a for your codec too as sometimes 729 speech can be a bit dodgy.

Edit: Haha oops, didn't read that link above. That is explained quite well. Very surprised to see them actually supporting a scenario like that!

I have many years experience with the Radionics/Bosch series of panels, the 9412 panels talk in a format called Modem3 and do work reasonably well over Voip, provided you have the Fax Codec enabled. If you go permacon, which will only work with correctly with ContactID enabled panels, you will not get the native signals such as zone numbers/user numbers/faults e.t.c from the panel. Your monitoring provider will only get a generic Open/Close/Activation via relay outputs on the control panel. the 9412 panels can have up to 256 zones, and just as many user codes, so depending on how expansive the panel configuration is, it may not be such a good idea to go this route if you are worried about which zone activated, or which user disarmed the alarm at 2am.

If your monitoring station has a Bosch D6600 Receiver (which they probably do, as these are the only receivers capable of communicating with radionics panels) you can get a Bosch B426 IP Module from Connect Security Products (the NZ distributor for Bosch/Radionics), which will communicate natively via IP to them.
