Ok, maybe one of the more builder people here have an idea?

We have a spring wheel on the back of gate, at the end. Like you do...

Gate is about 2.4m wide and 1.7 high...weight about 50/60kg.

Wheel rated for up to 100kg.

Gate open,  the drive is slightly lower that side than when gate is shut.  As drive slopes to one side a bit.

So, you pull it shut and the wheel compresses down, taking the weight, right?
But it doesn't. It just drags, and watching him do it, the gate tips at the top a bit.

I thought maybe it needs a wheel each side, in same place? Put a bolt right through to hold both of them?

He says it should work like it is, can't work out why not.The spring is not being pushed sort of thing.

Basically it requires less force to deflect the gate up ward than to compress the spring.

Have you tried lubricating the spring?  If it can move more freely it will require less effort to compress

If that doesn't work then if you put more weight on the gate will the sprig compress?

If yes then spring is too firm and a softer spring is needed (or stiffer hinges).

Might help if you post some clear photos.
