We needed 3 internal barn doors with tracks... somehow we got lined up with an outfit that supplies through Bunnings... and their estimate was $6000!!!

I have been though this myself, as was looking for options. I am guessing the 6k price included install and the door itself? My parents went with this rail for their ensuite. Not sure what their door cost them.

That looks nice. We want the black wrought iron style though and it's cheaper than stainless of course.

What sort of problems, there isn't much to them? When I was looking into them, ,some being sold locally are just the ones you can get off AliExpress, you can often tell because they even use the same photos, but you can buy at a fraction of the price. You still need to buy the door panel, and get a joiner / builder though to install the fittings on a door, which is where you would employ someone local, and that is where most of the cost will be. I am going with stainless ones as they look so much better especially in a modern interior with other stainless fittings. If there is a problem with the door, it will most likely be in the actually workmanship of the fitting and construction of the door itself. The problem I have found with sliding doors is they can warp, and then catch on the surround. Especially with pocket sliders. That is one reason I am going with a barn type.

Like anything it can turn up with a defect or fail once it is in use. If that happens than returning it for repair or replacement to China or Germany where some of the Aliexpress items are from is awkward.

Note also the freight and exchange costs. The first one totals US$110 incl shipping so NZ$157 not massively cheaper than the $170 local sourced item.

Shouldn't need to get a joiner to install though - it's just a through-bolt on the door panel so no probs for a good DIY or builder.

Depends on the model. I was looking more at the stainless ones which are a lot cheaper. The main reason I infact looked at AliExpress, was beucase they had the exact model I was looking at, whereas no nz retailer had it, as I don't like the ones that have straps down the door. So I have no option but to buy overseas. Also looked at US made ones, but they were quite crudely made. Also I would be prepared to buy in nz if they were actually made here.

Haven't gotten around to it yet, as have t started building yet. But am also considering some Häfele sliding fittings that are more hidden.

We have just got a Hafele swing-out shelf system for the kitchen corner cupboard - really nice product. Can't remember the price but that wasn't cheap.
