I know I have to get a plumber to fit a new shower mixer and make any changes to the drain as it's in a different position to the old shower's drain but can I legally install the acrylic shower tray and wall linings myself as it's my own home?

Yea of course you can. It's just building work at the end of the day.

I put my own set of taps and a sink out in the garage. But I didn't think there was any requirement to sign it off... is there?! Was quite fun actually doing the brazing and stuff.

Be careful to look into any council requirements for permits. I have no idea if any are required or not, but if you don't get them you might have problems later.

Just don't eff it up, you'll get next to no insurance for any gradual damage caused by leaks. Damage from leaks can be significant and cost many thousands to fix.

I'm all for DIY, but when it comes to wet areas, I think it's best to leave it to an expert. Preferably one that provides a good guarantee.

Yes you can, but they are very easy to stuff up so that's one job I would bring an expert in to do.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
