Saw one of these on a youtube video. Found it on harbor freight for the massive sum of $20 US

Aliexpress only has a similar thing that clamps to the drill where old ones had a place to clamp into a drillpress -

Twice the price roughly of harbor freight, which I assume is to cover the "free" freight.

Also that one would only work on one of my drills, an old plug in one so less ideal than the harbor freight one.

Anyone seen anything like the harbor freight drill guide locally for a sane price? Even amazon has the exact same pic as harbor freight but at $46 so thats not really something I want to get from there and have reshipped.

I've been looking for one of these for a while. Amazon had one that was about 25 USD, but was only available to Prime members. But by the time you added shipping, it was still like $60. Carbatec has the only one I've seen locally. But at $70.

If you do find one at sane prices, please do share. I'm keen for one as well.

Hmmm, That is a shame. The carbatec one is metal tho so may be better than the plastic harbor freight one.

Will wait and see what else comes up before pulling the trigger on that one. At least I could use it with a cordless drill, unlike the aliex one.

That looks useful - as much as anything for drilling perfectly perpendicular holes.

Would be nice if at a depth stop - couldn't see if it does?

The model at Carbatec mentions it has a depth stop - "A depth stop is included for drilling blind holes."

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Suck it up, pay the freight. You could barely start your vehicle, drive it to the shop, pay the parking, then drive home for those sort of dollars, let alone think of your own time at $100 an hour...

The AliX model looks a lot sturdier, I suspect that HF one would flap around in the breeze too much to be really accurate

That carbatec unit doesn't clamp on the drill like the others, not sure if that matters, but otherwise looks more sturdy. Lots of other nice stuff on their site. I really like this: https://www.carbatec.co.nz/product/6312-voyager-dvr-drill-press

Not yet. I will get the carbatec one closer to when I am ready to use it. Will have to replace that grotty chuck on it with something keyless, but other than that looks better. The ones that clamp onto the drill only work if you have a drill that can be clamped onto. On all my cordlesses the front is the clutch selector for when putting screws in so no good for clamping so the carbatec one is better than the aliexpress one for that reason alone.

One of the reasons I like the Wolfcraft one is that it's also meant for drilling holes into pipes/aluminium masts, which is normally pretty tricky without a drill press.

The Wolfcaft one has the channel for drilling into round stock which is handy, but for general use it covers the work piece so you can't see the spot you are drilling which slows you down a bit. That's why I like the drill guides the best - you can see the work piece, has v-block for holding round stock, and Item #3 on MDF's post has a handle on the guide to help position and steady it - nice.

Just waiting on rich to get that carbatec one and let us know if it's any good ;-)
