Some time back there were some posts. From memory most posters had obtained one from the same supplier. Maybe there are alternatives?

Are they useful, reliable, safe, and are there any recommendations?

heatermate.

I've been using one for 18 months with no issues.

I have read here that some people have had issues with them melting. I could see that happening if it was overloaded of run at full load forever.
I have no concerns of it happening here, mine is well below max load and I regularly check that it's plugged in properly.

Good to know. I assume it's a 2400W max. I'll be running at 1200W or less I believe.

Many multiboxes are not even safe over time with their rated 2400W.

Do you plug yours directly into the wall?

What are they like quality wise, and do they work?

I bought a couple from eBay about 3years back, had shrouded pins AU/NZ style, seem to work well enough. My google fu isn't finding anything just the same at the moment.
