Hi,

I'm curious if anyone received the "Big Winter Switch" offer (https://nzswitch.co.nz) , from what company and if they switched companies because of it. In my case I received an offer from Nova, but was just marginally better that if I switched to my current provider term plan.

Received a recommendation to switch over to Flick. Decided not to use them because of my usage patterns.

I chose a more expensive supplier due to the rewards offers that I plan to accumulate over the next 18 months.

$100 credit offered for switching on the first invoice. 15% Prompt Payment Discount. Since I am with Electric Kiwi it didn't make sense to switch as this is more.

Somehow I don't think that is going to get published on Stuff. Not a good look that their big savings idea couldn't even beat the standard published prices of an existing power company.

Was it some special fixed price offer from Flick? Or just their usual floating wholesale offer? As I can just imagine lots of people suddenly switching to Flick, who probably won't even know that a wholesale power market even exists, let alone how it works.

It is always funny watching the looks on people's faces, when they ask you how much you pay for power. And you reply that the price you pay changes every 1/2 hour.

I am with Flick and I got a recommendation to move to Electric Kiwi but the pricing was more than any of my historic bills from Flick.

I queried and asked why they were recommending I switch and pay more and the response was

"Sorry to hear this. We have tried to present the offer with a comparison calculator to enable you to determine of the offer we received was better than your current offer. If your current plan is better we are pleased you haven’t been paying more than you need to."

Obviously Flicks pricing has gone up recently but if I use the average pricing since I switched I am better off. The Big Switch calculator shows no savings when I put a 'normal' Flick bill into it.

I understand the spot market enough to know I am better off but I am expecting Flick pricing to return to previous levels in August or I may reconsider.

I think the Big Switch was a good concept but the execution didn't seem great. It took much longer than they said and I haven't seen any specific deals that indicate it is any different to 'What's my number'
