Hi want to get 1 litre of 10% sulphuric acid for experimental electroplating. Any ideas where I can buy it? Ive tried Bunnings, Mitre 10  then plumbing shops which have 98% will only sell to plumbers at $90/l. Battery shops will not sell.

Bulk supply on trade me is $!/liter but I only want 100mil at 98%

sigh

Contact the trademe seller and ask for a smaller amount.

I've had good luck buying Sulphuric Acid in discrete amounts (and Phosphoric acid and other dangerous things) by emailing the trademe sellers.

If your project can tolerate slightly contaminated H2SO4, grab some out of an old car battery.

Most modern car batteries come pre-filled so battery shops seldom hold acid on site. Motorcycle batteries often come dry, with tubes of acid that you add when installing the battery so you may have more luck there.

You can make it relatively easily with some copper sulfate (From a hardware store), a copper electrode (wire is fine), a carbon(or platinum) electrode(from a zinc/carbon battery) and an adjustable current power source if you get really stuck
