So, my security camera captured an unknown service engineer (gas or electrical), who was doing some work outside my house where the meters are.

He was there from 12:33 to 12:48. The strange thing was my energy company has no record of anybody visiting my property at that date and time.

I directly called the Wellington Electricity and they have also confirmed nobody was sent out. But I'm not sure who to call for gas in the Wellington area. All information just points back to "contacting your energy supplier".

From looking at the guy's equipment I think it gas related. I was concerned that he was scoping out my property. It's quite possible he was there for a real reason but you would think that the energy company would know about it.

I know it's not the meter reader man because he has the words "Wellls" printer on his back.

Hi, I would say gas, if you zoomin on his tool kit you can see white bottles, these would be detergent sprayers that help check for leaks around the meter joints. And if you look in his left hand it looks like a gas pressure meter.

We had someone doing the rounds in our neighbourhood installing labels with serial numbers onto the pods where underground power enters everyone's property. Ours happens to be on the inside of our fence. It would be courteous if they'd left a card or a note explaining what they were up to.

The only other thing I can think of is a robber disguised as a Workman.

Very frequently in Devonport we have people dressed as service people or landscapers scoping properties and gaining intel, A lot of robberies going on in this style, had it happen to a friend of mine. "Landscapers" were door knocking and he had some rubbish to remove, So showed them that and some other basic groundwork. Race car some how went missing from his garage not long after and it was clear the person who took it knew how to.

Could be anyone dressed as anything, thieves have also have/had jobs so they can blend in and can buy tools just like the rest of us. Probably stole the toolkit and outfit. Who knows.

These guys?

Probably This.

As there is lots of subcontracting in the electricity metering business.

Not a good sign, as that means the ticket is getting clipped along the way.

I know right? I much prefer that a company who has no experience in handling gas connections "man up" and refuse to use subcontractors who do, and go it themselves.  This never results in problems or issues and means it's cheaper for everyone.

I'm a loud and proud proponent of Fonterra running all the dairies and cafe's, but no one will listen to me.

Damn ticket clippers.

WELLS are trying to save money. Older shots of their meter maintenance staff overalls show an embroidered logo that's missing on the latest fluoro orange/blue lower sleeve ensemble.
