Had a power cut last night, my main computer was fine as it's behind a UPS...and network stayed up as well as that's also behind ups.

 

But my openhab machine is now a gigabyte brix hooked to the tv (it was my htpc).  It's uses a laptop style ac adpater for power - I think 12v output.  

 

But is there such a thing as a power brick that contains a bit of a battery that could take up the slack when there's no power?

 

Of course I could swap out the brix for an old laptop and it would work as I'd want, stay on for 30 mins or so on battery till the power comes back on.

There are a few people making UPSs for ONTs , these run on 12V so would do what you want,

Yeah I did think of that...But the problem I see here, it it still requires my existing ac adapter (ie doesn't replace it).

 

I was hoping for a direct replacement of the power brick.  Maybe what I want doesn't exist.

Yeah that looks like it could do it.  Seems to plug in to the wall, and then output various plug types.  Thanks will bookmark it.

Bugger, that wont do.  Gigabyte brix is 19v.....

 

Input: AC 100-240V
Output: DC 19V

Constant Vigil used to do a dual voltage 12V/19V unit. You can see it mentioned in the review here and still searchable on Google to the old store page here. Maybe contact them and see if they will do a custom unit for you?

I've got a 12VDC "UPS" that consists of a box with two 18650s that go inline with the standard 12V power connector, yours for the cost of postage, or pickup if you're in Auckland.

I have a custom 12/5 v unit from constant vigil that works perfectly. I recommend them for anything like this.

Thanks, since I'm Welligton possibly not suitable...but also I was wrong about the 12v.

Not sure if it works as an output when plugged into 240v power under normal running conditions, but something like this might work

Or could do something like this, and then just hook it upto a suitable 12v battery (i.e. deep cycle or even a car battery although it may not last)

Could you use POE to power it remotely from your UPS? (assuming you have a wired network). Depends on how much power your device requires of course. I power my ONT in the garage like this for power cuts etc.
