Hi all,

We're looking to having a heat pump installed in our bedroom, but not sure where to place it.
To keep it simple we'll probably have it installed on the inside of an exterior wall, however that wall is at the head of our bed.
The installer asked if we wanted it mounted centrally (above the middle of the headboard) or off to the side.
If anyone has a heat pump on the wall above the head of their bed, it would be great to hear your experience.
If you mounted it centrally or off to the side and if you're happy with the position or regret it.

I would assume noise would be the biggest factor, as the direction of the wind can be adjusted. And probably centered would look much better in the room.

I have one in my bedroom, mounted to the side (there is a window in the center).

Personally, I would definitely mount it to the side, there is a certain amount of air movement that you may not be able to avoid if mounted in the center. Some times you want it to heat/cool the room without blowing on you directly.

Part of me wants to mount it on the side, but the OCD in me wants it in the middle as @sonyxperiageek suggested.
@ArcticSilver, I too have concerns about unavoidable air movement.
I tested to see if I could feel any turbulent air, directly under our heat pump in the living room with the louvres pointing forwards.
But then again that's not to say these new units (Daikin Cora 2.5kW) won't have that issue.

I have spoken to a heat pump installer about installing it in a bedroom, and they suggest putting it to the side of the bed, so it isn't directly above a bed, and it isn't pointing towards the bed, otherwise he said you will get a draft.

Go for the side. I have one off centre in the kitchen and you don't even think about it being off centre after a while. I don't like being blown on by the heat pump.

In all our bedrooms the heat pump is on a wall away from the bed. We just took the advice of the install people to be honest. I forget the exact reasoning for their placement as the best suggestion - they did give us options we just took their best recommended. However; in hindsight I'm kind of glad its not directly above the bed and certainly not above my head. I wouldn't want to be under any of them should they fall off!

You'll get a draft whatever you do. That's what they do - they push air around.

If it's centrally above your bed head you might get a bit of the intake draft, but you can point the outtake away from you. To the side above your head, no idea. On a side wall might reduce that draft but you might get more of the breeze.

I have one heat pump back to back, one that's located away from the outdoor unit. Both work fine.

Have seen plenty mounted above the bed/headboard. I would think the draft (if any) would blow over the top of you provided the system has vents that you can adjust I am not sure what the issue is. Ultimately if that is the only external wall that may be your only option without adding to the complexity and cost of the install.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
