Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out if I have a main city gas connection to my street and down the drive way. Vector website was useless - I tried my own address which is around 600m from the building site and shows that I don't have connection... and in fact my hot water runs from main gas line!

Is there anyway to figure out which neighbours have gas connection without having to ask them?

If your hot water runs from mains gas, there's your answer! It wouldn't go if there was no gas in your street.

Why do you care if your neighbours have gas or not? If the reason is because you want to dig and are worried that you might hit a gas pipe. Well you would need to contact Vector. As it wont help you if the neighbours used to have gas, but have since disconnected. As the service line to their property would still be live in that situation.

This seems to be in a similar category as wanting to know if your neighbours have an active sky account or not. And Vector, Sky, or whoever probably wont be allowed to tell you anyway due to the privacy act.

The reason why I asked was that I am still unsure whether we have city connection on the site I am constructing or not. It was difficult to find on LIM report and Vector doesn’t seem to have a clue. If my neighbours sharing the drive way that is around 50 metres long has gas connection means that our connection should be nice and sweet vs having to pull it from the Main Street having to dig up the drive way.

My architect struggled to find it and same with my site planner.

Won't there be some ground level boxes similar to the water meter covers, or maybe a little covered over, they should be there someplace tho.  Look around the end of the driveways and places you would expect water and power break-outs to come into the property.

What result do you get if you put your address into the Vector Gas connection price estimator?

It should tell you if gas is available or not. Otherwise phone the new connections number and ask them.

Interestingly on vector site it says not available to the address. Contact them to check out the availability.

When I put my current address with gas available - it gives exactly the same answer!
