I'm reaching out for some help understanding if I'm dealing with good company.

Situation cold called for insulation, we needed some underfloor insulation so signed up on the night with Comfortmaster.

A week later received a call from Canterbury Sustainability Trust basically they were block calling areas covered by Comfortmaster saying these guys were dodgy and came up with better pricing for the same work. He also emailed me with some articles on Comfortmaster from various news papers and Facebook and a letter re using improperly using the symbol of a national organization.

A couple of days later while thinking about this, Comfortmaster called again re arranging an install date, I explained the above conversation and was directed to the head of the company who basically said they are a family company that is getting bad mouthed and there definitely seamed like there was history between them as this Trust rep had worked for them and setup their Facebook their brochures and inferring he had caused some of the issues above, and he found inaccuracies in my original quote so even cheaper than the second offering.

Bottom line price not the issue quality of end product is, I'm open minded but I would like some help here from previous experiences from Geekzone users, plus any recommendations.

Sustainability Trust is reputable, they did my under floor insulation. However this situation is a bit more "he says she says".

I did find one article saying ComfortMaster were taking advantage of the elderly, but that's only one article. They responded in a reasonable way, returned a deposit when requested.

Given this, if the price is reasonable for the products provided I would probably err towards staying with them. However, if they do anything wrong I would then write reviews on nocowboys (there's none yet, I checked), contact Stuff, etc.

Run for the hills, I've dealt with them. They are scum. Normally I'd be more restrained in my wording but I'll make an exception for them.

According to this article, Comfortmaster is not a member of the Insulation Association of NZ. That in itself does not mean they are bad - the company I have used several times here in Christchurch is not a member either but they still do a good job for a very reasonable price.

It really is worth shopping around for insulation and the installation thereof, as I have found that prices vary wildly.

Here is my story:

They did an expensive job of underfloor insulation using Green Stuff on my family home. I new it was over priced but I was too busy to arrange it myself and was happy to pay extra to 'just have it sorted'. They were also paid extra to remove and dispose of the existing foil under the house. This seemed to go well and so far so good.

We thought due to the ease of this first experience we would give them another job at another property, insulation top and bottom. This is where it went south. From getting the deposit they became impossible to contact.

Each attempt to communicate with them had to be via 'Debbie' on the phone. She would then make promises for someone to contact us, they wouldn't. Sometimes she would book a new install date, they wouldn't show up.

One time they did show up, but had the wrong width for the joists underneath and saw that as a reason to not even do the ceiling either.

Other times they turned up randomly and were surprised there was no key in the letterbox. This went on for months. Oh yeah, the phone goes to answering machine at 4pm, so by the time you get to the property to see if they have actually turned up at the agreed day and find they haven't, you can't complain until the next day.

Had to keep using different phones because Debbie starts to recognise your number. Eventually I get a random call from the tenants saying insulation has appeared while they were at work.

Of course there is a shed section under the house which is locked, so no insulation in there. Despite this being clearly explained to them that they would need to let me know when they were going to do the job so I could open up the area for them.

Guess what I found a couple of weeks ago? Exploring further under my house I found all the foil they were paid to remove hidden over the back!

Seeing this in writing it doesn't look that bad, but believe me the stress this caused me over many months was incredible.
