Hi all, recently purchased a 100 ish year old house. I have noticed a few worm type things, particularly around the windows. Can anyone identify what they are? Are they a pest at all? Or just part of the scenery?  Thanks!

Actually looks more like a type of slug. But it is a bit hard to see.

Looks like George to me, but could be his twin Fred.

I agree, looks more slug-like than a worm.

I was/am just worried that it is borer or termite related (or some other horror!). Although seems fairly unlikely based on what I can research on their different life-cycle stages

The house did have some borer which I've had sprayed with pest-bor (sub floor and roof space)

Will try and upload a better photo later

Appreciate your help (and the humorous responses!)

Cheers

Definitely not Borer. Probably just a visitor from outside.

One thing is for sure that isn't a computer worm.

Confirmed.

Fraternal - not identical - twins. My brother George lucked out on his share of human DNA.

If it isn't a dried up slug it will be a flat worm. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatworm

Probably a NZ slug … is the house up against a bank or near rain run-off area?

My daughter had a flat where one bedroom was always getting them around the windows until the whole property was ground-sealed and walls insulated insulated.

Yes. They are hermaphrodites.

(The majority of land slugs are simultaneous hermaphrodites, meaning they possess both male and female reproductive organs that are functional at the same time.)
