I have a Smartvent Evolve ventilation and heat transfer system (I don't like it, what's the opposite of reccomend?).

One of my major beefs is that the "Wifi network controller" is actually on its own network designed to be used with their supplied tablet, meaning if I want to access it on my pc or ipad I need to log out of my home network and into the Evolve network. It also means there's no way to forward the port and access it on an external network, so I can check it while I'm out, for example.

How do I change it so that it is on my own network and not theirs?

The setup consists of the main brain box which has an ethernet out to a wireless router which is how the Evolve network is created. I have tried hardwiring that brain directly to my router and it appears that it becomes a device on my network but when I try and use that ip address to access it nothing happens.

I have also tried coming out of the evolve router to my router but that doesn't work either, all that does is gives the Evolve network access to the internet.

Ryan

You need a router that can route between the two networks, e.g., Edgerouter or Mikrotik. ISP supplied devices typically only support routing between their WAN interface and a single internal network/subnet using NAT.

Can the app be configured with an IP address or does it use a discovery process??

I'm currently using a 2degrees Fritz!Box, will that do it?

There isn't an app, its just an IP address in a web browser. That's what made me hope I could bypass their router altogether and just plug it straight into my network.

Too simplistic?

I can't comment on a Fritzbox but a cheap entry level Mikrotik, e.g., RB750r2, can do what you want. Just determine IP address of the Evolve router (this gateway will be configured on other devices) and use that as the IP address on the replacement router's Evolve network facing interface. Also need to configure a static route on Fritzbox to tell it how to get to Evolve network, i.e., through the Mikrotik interface facing Fritzbox network. Mikrotik will then route traffic from Fritzbox network to the Evolve network.

Any chance I can just pull the evolve router straight out of the whole loop?

That's what I describe, taking out the Evolve router and replacing with a Mikrotik (to route between networks). You just need to know what IP address the Evolve router has on its LAN interface to use on Mikrotik as this address is used as the gateway by the other Evolve device(s)..

Oh ok, sorry I didn’t understand.
Why can’t I just plug the smartvent brain ethernet straight into my home router without adding an extra one?

Because they are on different networks/subnets. Alternatively you could change the Fritzbox subnet to match the Evolve subnet. Or maybe add the Evolve subnet to the Fritzbox if it supports such, I've never touched one so can't comment further.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I've got a Smartvent Evolve system installed and have done the process you're wanting to.

You can bypass their supplied wireless router and plug the control box directly into your home network.

I managed to get instructions from Smartvent on how to modify the network settings on the Evolve control box - PM me and I can send them to you.

Also, they do now have an Android App (but unfortunately it won't work if you change the IP address of the Smartvent Control Box to other than the factory default)

Would you please be able to upload these instructions or PM me?

I'll ring smartvent today and see if I have any luck getting the info out of them.

I've actually had a few people over the past 3 years PM me for the info - it's probably just easiest if I post a link to the files here!

Thank you so much! You're a legend!!

A rang smartvent this morning and they were no help whatsoever (far too technical for whoever I was speaking with lol).

I managed to do it this way (its probably not the best solution but it works)

- Plugged in a cable from my edgerouter into the smartvent router (internet port)
- Changed the smartvent router operation mode to "gateway mode"
- Assigned a static IP (e.g. 192.168.1.10) in the WAN settings to an IP on my internal network
- LAN settings I left it on the 192.168.1.X subnet
- I disabled the Wireless
- I changed the smartvent router remote management to another port (not 80)
- then in the firewall-port forwarding section I put a port forward for port 80 to the smartvent system (which I believe is always 192.168.1.170)

so now I can access the smartvent system from the static IP 192.168.1.10:80 and the smartvent router from 192.168.1.10:8080 and don't need to use that tablet anymore + got rid of that horrible access point

All sorted now, instructions were real simple once I new the address of the control unit - http://192.168.1.170/protect/config.htm

Instructions I followed are:
    - Connect to smartvent router
    - Go to address above and make the Gateway and Primary DNS match my home router (eg. 192.168.0.1)
    - Update the first 3 number of the IP address to match the number above (eg. 192.168.1.170 changed to 192.168.0.170).
    - Connect home router directly to evolve controller.

Too easy :D

Thanks again Krullos and Blackhand!!

Whilst on the topic, does anyone know if its possible to access the raw data from the control unit?

I've got a PC running 'home assistant' and it'd be awesome if it was possible to set it up to read the data.
