I have a couple of Broadlink RM Pro devices. They automate the on / off of my air conditioners, a 5 year old Fujutsu Nocria and a 7 year old Daikin.

 

They've worked ok over the couple of years I've had them. Problem is I upgraded my phone and reinstalled the app, and now when I try to add my air conditioners the same way I always have it can't find them in the database and makes me add them as user defined air con.

 

The problem with the "user defined aircon" mode is it's not smart it all, it just repeats codes. There's only one button for on and off in the interface, so I need to program a fake temperature to be "on". Then you have to manually program each combination of fan speed and temperature you want. Not a huge deal, it's just no idea, and it used to work fine.

 

The existing RM pro devices still have my rather complex on / off schedule programmed in, which takes into account days we're in the house, days we're out, when to come on high to use my free hour of power, etc, maybe 20 entries in each device. They still go on and off at the right time, but I can't view the schedule or change it. If I wanted to change it I'd probably have to work out how to reset the RM pro, set it up from scratch, and I suspect I'd have to user user defined aircon.

 

Any ideas here? Do I need to reset the RM Pro and risk having to program it from scratch? Anyone else found they can't add their devices from the database any more?

Probably the app developer being an **** and has updated their app, and removing existing aircon units from their database. Presumably to save on space. Was the app recently updated? You might have to track down an older version of the app and install it on an old phone with updates disabled.

 

Otherwise, you will need to switch to a locally hosted control solution.

I had massive problems with my Broadlink. Ditching it was the best thing ever - the software is just so incredibly buggy / terrible.

 

Honestly, it is a little more expensive but look at the Sensibo (https://sensibo.com/) as it is simply excellent and has a full API. It just works.

 

I know this doesn't help getting your Broadlink running but just another option.

Have you tried both apps - e-control and ihc?  Ihc seems to be better supported these days. 

 

I thought settings were backed up?  In the past I'm sure I just logged back into the app and it restored everything.  This certainly happens between the two apps.

 

Also would recommend Sensibo.

@Aredwood the codes are downloaded so I don't think it's that. Could be something weird like I can't access their server

 

@michaelmurfy US$240 for two, not sure it's worth that to me, not sure the wife would approve either.

 

@cebo I didn't know that other app existed. It seems to be on their website not on Google Play, but I got it installed. Will give it a shot and report back thanks. You can back up settings on the other app but I never did, didn't know it was there.

Sensibo seems to be IR only? RMpro does RF controls too (at least in theory. I have never been able to get the useless thing to work properly either).

Broadlink RM remotes do seem to work with HASS/home assistant. If you were going to the trouble of reconfiguring everything anyway, might be worth investigating using that as a controller rather than the sub-optimal app?

I use broadlink with H.A.

 

I found they were a bit buggy when my 2.4 and 5 ghz wifi had the same SSD name.

 

Problem solved now that each frequency has it's own SSD name.

Hey guys, weird bug with the Broadlink Intelligent Home Control app. If I try to set a lap timer for any time between 3:00 (3am) and 5:59am, once I hit save it reduces the time by one hour before it saves it. So if I set for 5:03am it displays it on the timer screen as 4:03am. If I set it outside that range, say 6am or 7pm, it records just fine. It does this for both heat pumps. I don't know what time it actually turns on because I'd have to be up between 3am and 6am to check... I am up just before 6 but I'm usually busy.

 

Can anyone reproduce? I'm going to email the person Google Plays says is the developer.

 

Broadlink stuff often has problems around daylight savings. It usually comes on an hour too early or too late, so I find I have to delete all my timers, give it a few days to catch up, then create them all again.
