Our neighbour friend has asked me to ‘have a look’ at her outside security lights. She has three LED lamps in different places near her garage with all three being controlled by a fairly standard-looking separate timer/sensor unit.

Two of the lights are noticeably flickering but the third light isn’t. Are LEDs like old incandescent bulbs which sometimes flickered when they were about to fail? Any other comments or suggestions on why they might be flickering? Maybe the sensor is faulty?

Thanks.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

It seems they do flicker before failing, as I've just had one do exactly that. Some older cheap LEDs seemed to flicker right from the get-go!

Easy way to check if it's the LED or a wiring/sensor fault would be to swap the LEDs around with the 'good' one, or swap them out with an old incandescent to test.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

If the sensor has a triac output then that doenst play nice with some LED lightbulbs, if its a relay type one then its probably the lamps themselves.
