I have a problem with an old 27MHz wireless control system that is installed between the tank (on the hill) and the water pump in the gully. I need to replace it with new equipment as the old 27MHz is water damaged. I have seen some 433MHz gear, but range is short and I need 2km range that the 27MHz equipment handled fine. I may consider some 5.8GHz or 2.6GHz linking gear and use IP if I can get the input and output PCBs with a LAN connection.

What is around?

Have a look at Smartwater, have put a few of these in service and they work well.

Float valve on the tank. Pressure controller on the pump.

No electronics needed on the tank. And you can also supply water to other things directly from the pump.

How do the tank electronics get power? Is there some sort of cable running to the tank?

There is no cable to the tank. That is one solution of course to run a cable to a float switch. Yes the pressure switch is an option, but we are concerned about the pipe and over pressuring it and blowing it out as it is 30-40 years old. Solar at the top for the transmitter.

you can still get the elsema 27 mhz gear, i know we have some on the shelf at work, i have used it for a lot of similar situations and its great, a solar panel a battery and your all set for the tank at the top, the last one i did was at limestone downs, the tank wasnt 2k away but the hill it was on was quite steep

these guys are who we get it from.

i would replace it as its far easier to do that than run a cable 2km.

the only other option would be a wireless link with a plc of some sort, i have used a simens to control lighting via TCP/IP at a few of our jobs and that worked fine over a closed network.

Yes, AAP is good. I buy a bit off them already for security installs. They tell me that the 27MHz gear is not been sold anymore, I would need to use 432MHz. But can use Yagi's to get the range.
