I can't see a forum appropriate for power companies, so I'll post there here.
I've been a Powershop customer for over 10 years.
But....on August 14th they sent me an email saying they had moved me to a "Get Shifty" plan with peak prices and off-peak prices. They gave examples. 14c / kWh off-peak and 26c / kWh peak.
I didn't read the email for a a week or so.....but saw another email talking about Get Shifty, so I emailed them asking what it was. They replied and said I was already on Get Shifty.
Oh?
I went back and reviewed my Powershop filter folder.....and saw the email saying they had moved me to this plan, but I could click an opt out button in the email if I didn't want to stay on it.
Really? Opting people in without asking or consent?
I checked the rate on my account...and today's rates on that day were 17c/kWh off-peak and 29c/kWh peak.
I've NEVER paid 29c kWh and the 17c was about 1 cent / kWh lower than my previous average on Powershop. So this was going to end up being a LOT more expensive for me.
I called Powershop and told them I wasn't impressed and saw this as bad business practice and disrespectful of me, the customer, to do this without asking me.
Anyway.....after talking to Consumer and others I checked out other power providers and switched to Meridian, who will charge me 16c / kWh 24/7.
So thanks, Powershop, in a way as I'll now be paying less for power than I was before.....just not from you.
