Just had my pool inspected by HCC, Had an old mower(which doesn't go) in my Pool Pump Shed have to remove it. Its raining like hell so I will remove it later. My neighbours fence had some broken palings on his side of the fence I am to get him to fix this. As a result the(HCC) will reinspect in 28 Days to see if I have got my neighbour to fix his fence and that I have removed the mower and I have to pay a reinspection fee of $120,00.

Talk about bureaucracy going crazy.

Why do you have to remove the mower? Is it going to drown someone?

WTF regarding the mower ??? We have all sorts of crap in our pump "shed" :) In saying that, up here in Auckland, they just seem to check fencing is in place and gates work properly and thats it.

I did have an inspector knock on the door once, because someone complained about "easy access to the pool" - I had a dog house across the gate keeping it closed, because the latch had broken. The inspector saw that and did the the "get it fixed" routine, then she looked at the pool itself - "its empty !!". Yes, because of the big hole that was in it and had been like that for quite some time. She was like "oh, dont worry then, no issues here bye". Was an annoying neighbor who called them.....

I expect they will want the sea fenced from the beach soon....

The interesting thing is fence on my side is okay The whole fence which is about 35 metres long is Vertical timber slats old 6x1 with a 2x1 slat between on my side. Fence along pool is about ten metres.

My neighbours side is 6x1 with a spacing of around 100mms with no 2x1. Only one of the vertical timber panels is missing along the pool section of the fence So I replaced it with a panel from further along the fence line which is not by the pool area. Havent told them yet. It has three horizontal rails spaced around 600mm. Just read the rules fence must have "minimum of 900 between the rails" I think they missed this. Its my neighbour fence that is /was the problem but my responsibility to get it fixed. I think I might jump of the Cobham drive bridge into the Waikato which in actual fact would be easy to climb on the fence or protective barrier than it would be to climb on to the fence between my place and my neighbours.

Auckland city council spent big money fencing the side of a river. Then they had to move the fence, as it was too close to the road, and blocked the visibility of cars that were trying to exit out of driveways.

Re. the mower. If you use granulated chlorine they may not like the mower being in the shed, as they think cans of petrol and oil may be put in there too. It might be a general rule.

Last I checked the inspections were voluntary, you didnt have to allow them onto your property to inspect the doors etc. My pool is empty at the moment because it needs a resurface so they have occasionally sent me a letter saying that they see that it is empty and I should get it reinspected before filling it. Again, I was advised that is not a legal requirement and just the council sticking their nose where it doesn't belong.

MacKenzie District Council, $300 first inspection and $300 every three years thereafter. When we first put the pool in over twenty years ago we had a free inspection and had a 100% compliance. Nothing has changed but every three years two representatives will come around for an hour (last inspection to 30 minutes) and I’ll end up with a bill. Sigh. Might have to decommission it and just swim in the lake.

If there had been a problem with the pool we would have had to stump up with $120 too. Robbers wear suits these days, lol.
