We have one 45kg tank outside. I noticed a slight smell of gas just before it was replaced as it was almost empty, so i thought maybe thats normal. Its been replaced with a full tank and I still smell it. Not strong, but I pick it up in the vicinity as if there must be a small leak somewhere

Can anyone confirm a leak is the only reason? Its not normal, surely?

Get some good soapy water and slather the connections and valves. Leaks make bubbles.

You shouldn't normally smell gas at the bottles.

Turn the valve on the tank off and see if you can still smell it,

It might just be venting from the regulator.... but if you are worried about it get a gasfitter round to check out the regulator and piping...

Just done that to be safe. We have been here 2.5 years, I've just noticed it. He said it might be the flexi or regulator, its not worth pondering over, methinks

Is it a dual bottle setup only running one bottle?

I have a setup like that, and if the bottle sets low, and there is no bottle on the other side, the valve can bypass some due to the pressure differential depending on the outside temps.

If its still doing it when full, i would have a gas fitter come past and check it for sure

Not a dual bottle setup, just one connection. We can't have two as something is to close to something. The bottle is full now, I only noticed it when the last bottle was really low, but it stayed since the replacement. The gas guy will be here this avo, will post the result

As somone above said... get soapy water and put it on all the connections including valves on the bottles.

if it starts to bubble you have a leak (dont be fooled by obvious soapy water bubbles popping... you are looking for a small bubble maker... really tiny bubbles.

Edit, it may well be the o rings on the connector wearing out.

Inside the regulator there is a plastic disk, that had a small hole, so they replaced the regulator and hose.
