We recently bought a 2 storey house with a DVS ventilation system in the roof, with piping down into the bottom floor.

The system appears to be defunct. I've tested all the temperature settings, and used a multimeter within the timer panel and it shows 240v so it looks like the system is powered.

I've climbed up into the ceiling and everything appears to be in order. Although there is a fair amount of rat droppings.

It was installed by a company called In-Home Ventilation Ltd in Wellington, which appears to no longer exist.

Anyone have any ideas? Or is it best to get it checked by a specialist?

Any ideas appreciated.

Have you switched the timer switch to 'manual'? (You probably have, but I have to ask...)

With a non-contact voltage detector, can you detect any voltage in the cable to the fan?

Final step would be to disconnect the fan cable and put a 3pin plug on it, then test with an extension lead (only if you're confident doing electrical work)

Assuming that you've found all of it, it's a pretty basic system - no thermostat - you have to manually flick the switch when the roof cools down

Sure it's not DVS? https://dvs.co.nz/ The sticker says DVS...

The top thing is a timer to set when the fan comes on and off - switching to manual should override so the fan is always on.

The bottom one seems to be two speed controls for the fan - unsure what the switch between them does - maybe switches between the two speeds?

Is there a thermal cutout or resettable breaker on the fan unit?

Yes I've tryed all the different possibilities on the panels, plus the other panels in the ceiling, including the "therm" on the back of the unit. Seems to make no difference though.

I don't have a non-contact voltage detector unfortunately but that is a good idea. I'll ask around at work, possibly I can borrow one.

Also good point on a potential breaker. Haven't seen any obvious ones, but there could be. Would it be on the main unit?

flick it on to manual and check the voltage at the fan or the PCU, that will tell you if its the timer or any of that other stuff before the fan make sure you crank up the speed settings too, if theres no power are the fan, check the voltage going in to the speed control and out of the speed control

Hope the rat/s are gone as they've been chewing the top of the powerpoints!
You need to trap them as poison makes them thirsty and they'll gnaw through water pipes
