Several years ago a got a gas heater from 4Seasons, it has an open flame like this.

That summer we didn't use it as we had a newborn child and didn't get outside in the evening much, the next year it was too wet, year after I went away and now this summer I've dusted it off.

It was used the day we got it and never again.

When you start it I get the igniter clicking like the gas hobs in the kitchen but it doesn't light. Any tips on how to work out why?

try manually lighting (lighter or match) it and see if it works. if so it may clear out anything gunked up in there.

then try again

Cheers, I can see the pilot light working with a small blue flame.

It doesn't ignite however, it should work like this

If the pilot flame is going then probably the main jet is blocked. If the alliance has been unused for a while the most common cause is a small spider will have built a web that is blocking the jet.
You will need to remove the jet and clean out the web.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.
