Just got quoted $500 to replace a window pane (600mm x 715mm) to put a cat door in. This doesn't include the cat door itself. Pane has to be specially made.

Does that sound crazy or is that normal.

I've heard $250 for a microchip enabled cat door in existing double glazing

Done properly, you can't just "cut" for a cat door, you have a new window module made that has the cutout in it, but is sealed on all the edges and around the cutout. If you just "cut" a circle in both panes, the window loses it's integrity and will more than likely condensate between the panes.

Mate had one done recently, new pane and included the cat door, for just under $600.

Your quote sounds about right for it being done properly.

Totally this^^^^^

PLUS

Price is totally dependant on what glass you have in your existing double glazing... Is one side low-e? laminated? toughened (should be being under a certain height)? 3mm? 6mm? Other side the same? Different? What's the gap?

Quoting DG pet doors are pretty much up there with "how long's a piece of string?"
