Currently building a house in Pokeno and it’ll be time to start getting curtains and blinds organised soon.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with and can recommend any companies out there, will be looking for someone to do the making and hanging.

Even though the build is in Pokeno I don’t mind going anywhere in Auckland for this, or even Hamilton if it’s worth it.

Thanks in advance!

We used https://www.mckenziehouse.co.nz/ doing our kitchen and lounge in Auckland, but good for you as they're based in Pokeno.

Pip was awesome and happy to work with fabric my wife found. They're not the cheapest around but the quality is well worth it, we will definitely be repeat customers when we reno the bedrooms.

@corksta, how did you get on with your curtains/blinds? We're also in the need for blinds/curtains in Pokeno. Do you mind saying who you ended up using and if you'd recommend them? Feel free to reply in a DM if you don't wish to say anything publicly.

Does anyone else have anything to add to the above recommendations?

Cheers and thanks

Stu

So we’ve ended up going with Harrisons and getting curtains/blinds throughout the whole house. We’ve gone with blockout backing throughout too.

So for two Venetian blinds, two Romans and nine curtains it came to just over $8,400. The price is mostly dictated by your choice of fabric, but we haven’t gone for the cheapest, we’ve gone midrange but honestly it all looks fine I can’t see any difference in quality.

A woman called Natasha does the Pokeno area, she’s based from an East Tamaki office, and she’s been great to deal with: friendly, knowledgeable, organised.

I did look at Russells too and pricing was fairly similar. We’re taking on a mortgage as well so it was easier for us to go with Harrisons with their finance deals.

They’re being hung next week. Let me know if there’s anything else you want to know.

Just recently had Russell's in Christchurch do the blinds and curtains for our house, they were fantastic, really good service and quality throughout, they were knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with, pricing was very competitive. (ended up being around 3.5k for 2 venetians, 6 blinds and 2 sheers including install.)

Dial a Drape have done two house loads for us, both with affordable and good service. We had nets, certains with light blocking backing as my wife used to work shifts, and some blinds which they subcontracted out.

We made mention that our nets had disentegrated after around 5 years, in some high moisture high sunlight areas and asked them to measure for replacements. They came out and said they would replace them for free and did. Totally above and beyond.

I'd use them again.

@corksta: We got a couple of quotes, including one from Harrisons. We've decided to go with the quote from Harrisons. Not the cheapest, but better warranty offered than cheaper options, and nicer fabric. Natasha was most helpful with sorting out fabric etc. I did mention you'd suggested her via Geekzone.

Cheers and thanks!

The best place I ever used was Australia. An online shop, you choose the material, size, plet, style, lining etc etc and they make them and ship them.

All up it was 1/3 of the price of the NZ stores.
