I've a leatherman I'm really fond of (had it for 23 years) and the blade now needs a sharpen .. anyone know of a good sharpening person in Auckland who can do serrated blades ?  I don't want a bodge job done that wrecks the blade (ie.  I won't do the job myself!).

Thanks!

On the recommendation of others here I went to Artisan Knives.

https://www.artisanknives.co.nz/shop/services/knife-sharpening-auckland-new-zealand/

He did an ok job, I would not call it a great job but way better than the last guy I used and better than myself.

I am looking to get a decent sharpening system + a decent whetstone ( I have not decided what to get yet )

The Leatherman agent is Tight Lines in Napier.  One of my colleagues has sent his back to them for sharpening on several occasions, and I believe it was done without charge.

I used them too, and I wasn't that impressed. I went back recently to House of Knives in Mt Eden and they did a better job for a fraction of the cost.

@networkn that for that tip, I did not know house of knives did sharpening.

I will consider that for next time, I still want a sharpener to do the basics at home.

I have a Lanksy kit here that I haven't used in years. Same as the one in the link below. Free to a good home if you can pick up from West Auckland.

I've got a Vulcanus, common in central Europe, but never used it after I discovered 1000 and 3000 grit hard foam-backed diamond pads from China. They reverse the standard medieval "scrape the knife over the abrasive" method and turn it into "scrape the abrasive over the knife", so you use the pad to polish/hone the knife edge. If I can find a link to them I'll post...

Ah, of course, it's sold as "collectables - autograph polishing plate amber mirror polishing block", why didn't I think of that. This one. You just stroke them down the knife/chisel/machete/whatever blade for a perfect finish.
