HI all,

My wife and I are about to have our kitchen renovated, we need to buy an Oven, Cook top, Range hood, dishwasher, sink and tap etc. We have been looking at Trade Depot in Christchurch as they are miles cheaper than anyone else and are not after anything amazing as we plan to rent the house in a few years.

I was wondering how good there stuff actually works, I figure an oven is an oven and should do its job fine, we are going for their upper end induction cook top also, both are of the brand Vogue, can anyone say if they are ok to use or are they rubbish?

Then comes the dishwasher, this is what I am most curious about as I know a crappy dishwasher will be pointless as it will not clean dishes properly, I have put the link to the one we are look at below, Its an Orion, can anyone advise if its any good?

There is a Tuscany dishwasher at noel leeming and it has less features and higher db noise level so I am less keen on that but perhaps it will clean better?

I've got one of their Vogue induction hobs, (this one) which works fine. Depending on your loading you may need a separate power run for the hob as the induction cooktops do suck down the power. I originally had the cheaper non-Schott glass one, but when it shattered during install after I dropped a screwdriver on it from height, I decided to go with a stronger replacement :)

Also got a rangehood, wall oven similar to this one and combination microwave at the same time.

The main issues I've had with Trade Depot relate to shipping (a ceramic sink and its replacements repeatedly turned up broken because they were just thrown into a delivery van each time and another item took them over a month and many many phone calls to ship despite being in stock because it was hard to access in their warehouse so they didn't bother). Hopefully you should be able to avoid this if you can actually pop into their branch.

Not sure about their warranty follow-up - the microwave I linked above has a strange glitch where every minute or two the entire LCD display briefly flashes some random pattern for about half a second which catches your eye and is a bit disconcerting. Otherwise seems to work fine, but when I e-mailed them to see if their display model did the same thing they ignored me, then when I asked again they told me to fill in their full warranty form with proof of electrical installation cert etc. After I did that a month or so ago they haven't responded to either the warranty form or further e-mails, so if you're not near one of their depots, can be a bit of a hassle to deal with. (Wouldn't recommend that model microwave either, as a bit underpowered and non-intuitive controls. It matched the oven though, which works fine.)

So - haven't had any issues with the oven, rangehood or hob, and given that I could probably buy three ovens for the same price as the alternative I was looking at, I'm fine with my decision.

Here's a shot of them in place - turned out fine for a cheap self-install (modified some cheap base units from Bunnings, used an easily-cut Reflections splashback etc, although the rimu for the benchtop wasn't the cheapest :)

And can't comment on the dishwasher, although as they are more likely to break down than ovens it might be worth getting a recognised brand if you're going to have to service it once the place is rented. I do know that when I've previously looked up various Warehouse Daewoo appliances, www.productreview.com.au pretty much persuaded me against them, so there is that.

We have a Vogue induction cook top and it's been fine. We got it back in August 2016.

Not 100% sure as they have changed the SKU but it looks the same.

I purchased a new-build home over 3 years ago, which had Vogue oven, cooktop and dishwasher installed.

Initially I thought I would be replacing them with "well known brand" appliances, but have been pleasantly surprised.

I have had no issues with any of them, and would certainly look at them again if any needed replacing.

I didn't have a good experience with Trade Depot. They had an item listed on their site which I ordered along with accessories. They e-mailed to say the item was out of stock and requesting instructions from me. Despite multiple requests, both via e-mail and their live chat (left a message) before the order was sent, they still sent the unnecessary accessories AND charged for the item that was out of stock. After the order arrived, they promised to organise a collection for the extra items and issue a refund. They never did, and I filed a chargeback with the card provider.

Customer service is complete rubbish, we brought a bath while building a new house, and when we unboxed it couple months later found it had a crack in it. The packaging wasn't damaged and it had been stored in a garage untouched. Likely happened at factory before it got packaged. anyway.......

The terms and conditions of sale state you must inspect the goods within certain number of days (cant remember exactly) to make a damages claim, so when I asked about getting a replacement/refund they didn't want to know me, were really unhelpful, rude and kept referring me back tot he terms of sale. So now I have bath that i've had to patch up for my new house.

If you do buy something from them, inspect it as soon as you get it, don't take any crap. They will do everything they can to weasel out of their obligations.

That is a bit of hard lesson to always check stuff that you buy yourself. Are you sure the fault you had wasn't a manufacturing defect, or had it definitely been damaged? Sometime it is very difficult to check these things though without two strong people to lift things.

If you're going to be spending thousands of dollars on whiteware then a one-off payment/subscription to Consumer will more than pay for itself in terms of money saved on decent-quality gear. One thing that never fails to surprise me - or maybe doesn't surprise me because it happens so often - is how often budget gear outperforms market-leading brands costing several times as much.

And then there's the whole ranges of detergents and whatnot whose performance rates the same as plain water in terms of cleaning power. Rule of thumb is that if it has "Eco" or "Earth" or similar in the name, it's no better than tap water.

And SPF-50 sunblock that isn't.

So it carries a disproportionate amount of negative reviews from people complaining about faults and glitches. They may well be justified, but they give a somewhat unbalanced view of a product.

To a degree. IMO Amazon reviews seem better and more balanced.

Customer bought a Vogue gas hob from them and asked me to install it (I'm a gasfitter). The hob wasn't listed on the gas appliance database on the Energy Safety website. Trade Depot refused to list it on the website. and kept trying to fob off me and the customer. And they tried to supply me with electrical SDOC forms instead.

I had to report them for selling unapproved gas appliances. The correct information appeared pretty quickly on the Energy Safety website after that.

Definitely check that all paperwork is correct before buying anything from them.

Not sure on appliances but they do seem to have very good price. I have however bought a lot of the electrical and plumbing and the prices are amazing.

We've had a Vogue 10kg washing machine and heat pump dryer for two years which have been fantastic. Towards the end of last year we were refurbishing two motel units and ordered pretty much all the bathroom and kitchen fittings and appliances from them.

I made a trip to Christchurch (5 hours return) to make sure everything was in stock before ordering. They confirmed it was and advised delivery would be within a week. In the end about of the third of the items were out of stock and we had to choose replacements. It took a month for the first items to arrive and almost two months for the balance. This caused significant problems with the schedule for the builders to complete the work. I made two further trips to Christchurch to try and sort things out, and literally dozens of 'phone calls and couldn't get straight answers about what was in stock and when it would arrive.

Having said that all the appliances have performed well - cooktops, fridges, microwaves - but the lack of service, and the fact I felt misled when checking stock levels and delivery times, means I wouldn't use them again.
