The New Zealand Rocketry Association (NZRA) is hosting its first International Launch Event "Havoc In The Paddock" in Taupiri Waikato next February 7/8/9th (2020)

Every year on the first weekend of Feb the club comes together to launch high-powered hobby rockets and open their launch site to the public.

This coming year is going to be bigger again, with invited members from international clubs attending over three days it's set to be epic.

The Sunday 9th Feb sees the Launch site open to the public and anyone can come and see the awesomeness that hobby rocketry brings!

This will involve a Full-Scale replica of the Nike Smoke Sounding rocket.

Check us out and bring the family! there'll be food/drinks and toilets available on site.

Thanks for the early warning, this is something I have wanted to go to for years but always missed it.

As a kid I would have loved to have done rocketry. I might have to bring my Nephews down for the day, my Dad would love this too.

Go for it! my son (6) loves it and even has his own low-power rocket which he launches himself.

There's going to be "build-and-fly" low-power rockets available for kids/adults alike, plus the sound/sight of the High-Power ones is totally addictive! (which on the public open day there'll be plenty of (including one each from myself and my wife)

Added to the calander. With the Apollo 11 50th this year my boys are obsessed with rockets at the moment.

I wish Rocket Lab were more consistent with their launches - we would have gone down this weekend if it was a 90% chance it would launch.

This is pretty darned cool and is bringing back some memories! Back in the early 90's my family went on a holiday to north america and while there we bought some hobby grade rocket kits (estes D size kinda thing) and brought them home, in carry-on luggage no less. I still have very fond memories of taking the kit out to an empty field and firing it off on a stinking hot day, then hunting for it in the bush nearby while Dad napped in the back of the car.

I've put this event in my calendar but my oldest boy will only be 6 so going for three days probably isn't viable. What day will the Nike Smoke rocket be fired? Also, having read about it in the link you provided, will the replica hit the same sort of heights? Even at quarter of that height it would be incredible to see the smoke trail.

The Nike Smoke will be launched on the National Launch Day (The Public open day) on the Sunday. It's expected the single day price will be around the $20 mark (but will know for sure closer to the date, keep an eye on the website or facebook page for updates!)

In regards to the Height, I'll have an answer for you once I've liaised with the people involved!

Here's some further info: https://www.facebook.com/TheHavocNike/ expected altitude is 9000feet, so not overly high (some of the smaller rockets during the event are expected to hit heights over 20,000ft, however based on its size and weight, it'll be an awesome rocket to see up close!
