Calling Electricians/Gasfitters,

Are there any restrictions on how minimum distance an internal electrical socket can be from a gas line running internally up a building wall?

See attached photo - flush box is where I'm hoping to install the electrical socket (10Amp PDL Double Socket, if that matters) , and the yellow pipe is the gas line running from my 45kg LPG bottles (which are around 25m away from photo location, if that matters).

A quick Google search brought me to here, where someone claims for "distances from gas pipes to electric cables the clearance is 25 mm (minimum)", but are there any experts here who can verify this for me?

The concern for distances is between the gas outlet and the power outlet not the internal services running thru walls - and that distance is 300mm for a powerpoint / switch to a gas outlet i.e. hob supply or heater supply.

Gas utility companies have other restrictions for the supply side - the gas meter/bottles and a window or an electrical meterbox or a drain - usually 1000mm/1m is required between them.

The issue is (at least with electrical items) the potential spark inside switching products so close to a potential gas leak. While that photo you have might put you on edge it's not illegal. If it really bothers you, get it moved

It wasn't a claim, it was a reference to the clause in the electrical standard AS/NZS 3000 3.9.8.4 Proximity to non electrical sevices (b) refers to gas and water standards and has a requirement that above ground electrical services must have a minimum clearance of 25mm from gas or water pipes.

No expert here - but it looks to me like you've data cabling in the box on the left - can't you swap them - have the data cabling by the gas pipe and electrical socket on the other side?

Thanks - as I'm not a frequent user of the AS/NZS 3000 I wasn't sure if that information was still current or not.

Yeah - I ended up going with that option as it wasn't much extra work, and the answers above hadn't been received by then.
